What to know before planting?
We recommend you to start planting thujas if the ground has already become so soft that the shovel enters the ground, and also if sub-zero temperatures are no longer expected. If you want to plant thujas in the summer, then choose a period of time when there is no heat and drought, and even better when it rains.
When planting, you need to pay attention to the soil and, possibly, add more soil. Thujas are planted in the soil in September or spring, as soon as the snow melts. It is recommended to start by marking the planting site of a straight line of rope. Dig holes about 80 cm deep. When planting the Smaragd thuja, it is recommended to leave a distance of 1 meter between the trees, and about 70 cm when planting the Brabant thuja.
If the soil is poor, add a mixture of sand, turf, compost and peat to it. If the soil is clayey, make drainage from broken bricks or expanded clay.

How to plant thuja Smaragd and thuja Brabant
Read above about what to do before planting. We sell only thujas in a pot, because they have a 99% survival rate. It is necessary to take out the rhizome along with the lump from the pot and lower it all into the hole. In this case, the root neck of the plant should be at surface level, it only needs to be sprinkled with soil a little.
After planting, the thujas should be watered abundantly, and the surface around should be mulched – for this it is better to use mulch. Mulch holds moisture well, and at low temperatures it will protect the tender roots of a young thuja from freezing.
For fertilizer, we recommend using products of Baltic agro brand. Ground to buy the Bioland brand.

How to care and water
Thujas require watering, top-dressing and cutting. If the area is open, sunny and dry, then within a month after planting the thujas should be watered often and plentifully so that they take root well. Small trees take root faster and do not require much care compared to tall thujas.
In summer, water once every 3-4 days, in spring – once a week. With frequent rainfall, thujas can be watered less frequently.
Fertilize plants in spring. Top-dressing is best done with a special fertilizer for coniferous trees. Due to the long action, organics can be used once every 3 years. It is necessary to loosen the soil around the seedlings shallowly – from 3 to 5 cm.
Thujas haircuts are required 2 times a year – in early spring and late summer. Remove dry and rotten branches with secateur, and then create the desired shape for the krone. Smaragd can rarely be trimmed – it keeps its shape for a long time. Brabant should be cut more often, because it grows quickly and densely.
We recommend to stop top-dressing in the fall. If the temperature drops below 5⁰C, insulate the rhizomes and wrap the trees with shade cloth. So the trees will not be damaged by winds and the weight of snow.
